Advert Analysis (Short)
Going to be doing a short analysis for different adverts by the sound which is being heard and to what is seen on the screen.
Burger King: is an advert with diegetic sound because the sound is clearly from the source (Guy) within the advert, it could be said to be a bit contrapuntal because he's making wrong noises at the wrong tme but could have parallel sound because the sound matches the advert. It has an on screen sound from the office to the guy making the sound. The "Mmmm" sound is in a synchronized manner and is connected to the advert. The advert tells you to buy the food that makes you "Mmmm", because it's that good.
Citroen: is an advert with non-diegetic sound as the sound doesn't come from the source (orchestra) within the advert, it shows contrapuntal sound; the loud rock music which can be heard is a total opposite to the really classical orchestra music that can be seen on the screen. Feel the advert is trying to show that it's a really sleek and classic car but it moves fast and is able to adapt to situations, that's the connection to what we see and what the advert is about.
Persil: this advert has on screen sound as the source can be seen within the frame and it is diegetic; sound is coming from source of the advert (Music, mettallic, drum beats, clinging noises, blowing of dust, garage door opening, stumping on the ground, metallic guitar). It has a parallel sound too, as what we hear fits what's happening on the screen. Meaning: no matter how tough the stains created by them, Persil is able to clean them off....connection-the loud and noisy represents the tough stains.
Nestle: has both a diegetic (opening of the car trunk, keys clinging, door opening, dropping the bag and sound of relief) & non- diegetic sound ("super-hero" sound, explosion, sound of a sword slashing), just as the sound is both on-screen & off-screen. It shows a contrapuntal sound- looks funny- music shows that something serious is happening, like he's performing a dangerous operation, while all he's actually doing is carrying shopping bags from the car to his house. The point of this video is to show that Yorkie gives you energy to be able to perform different tasks...music connection-manly song for manly stuff.
Go Ahead!: i find this advert quite different from others, it has a diegetic sound; this sound is gotten from the tennis ball shooter, the Asian man talking and the racket hitting the tennis ball-on screen, however, it also has non-diegetic sound;the Asian classic music playing-off screen. The advert has some sort of parallel sound, we can clearly hear and see that tennis is being played. I find this advert quite random (really different), it's a bit difficult to find a connection-doesn't really attract the audience-it just states what the snack has. Some connection could however be seen, the advert is trying to show that it's a really healthy snack with low calories that is even suitable for those who are really into what they eat e.g: a tennis player.
AND THAT'S THAT! :)
